Affordable Care Act

It seems that the growing concern now in national government, is a question of whether the Affordable Care Act, also known as "Obamacare" to others,  is something that Americans really need. Problems with the website Healthcare.gov has many people and republicans in particular, concerned with how the effective this new law is going to be. This issue is going to be in the spotlight for many years to come or at least until after the Presidency of Barrack Obama. Many questions arise like...Do we really need to insure everyone in the United States? Where is the nation going to find the funds to back this law? Will American Citizens really be able to afford these new "affordable" insurance rates?

In a news article from NBCnews.com on their politics page, President Obama said he is determined to keep the Affordable Care Act alive as long as he is still President. Republicans are doing all they can to defunct the law and keeping the process of it to become fully matured. This ongoing battle between The Executive Branch and the Legislature is leading the nation in a standstill. Neither side, as it seems, is giving an inch to compromise unless it is total obliteration of the opposite's ideals.

My own personal opinion on the subject matter is undetermined, as I believe that I do not file under the group of people who needs this form of insurance, because my occupation with the City of Austin covers me. I understand the sides of the issue only vaguely and with that small understanding I can only try to come to a conclusion of my own, on whether this law is necessary. If I may speak freely, through this post, I say for me personally, The Affordable Care Act is something that I would not support because currently I am not in a position that I'm in dire need of health insurance. If I were a different situation in life where I needed medical attention and did not have health insurance, I would probably singing a different tune. Its all rather subjective to one's lifestyle on whether the Affordable Care Act is a necessary law needed by American citizens. There are too many variables and factors that can swing one's ideology to give a clear and concise conclusion. I will say that as long as the law doesn't affect my personal life too greatly then there is no objections with me. Though it may sound rather selfish of me to say these things, I truly believe the saying "to each their own" in regards with the issue of the Affordable Care Act.

Some interesting facts can be found on Huffingtonpost.com in an article titled "The Biggest Myths About Obamacare." The article is an interesting read and somewhat correlates with my opinion on that the law really does not affect me. Its is up to the individual on whether they feel that "Obamacare" is right or wrong and on that note... I bid you goodnight.

  1. Who would have thought the Affordable Care Act would have turned into this huge of an ordeal? With the Government Shutdown, political parties at odds, and all of the website shenanigans it has all kind of gotten out of hand. I feel the same way you do in a lot of ways, when it comes to, “to each his own.” I over all think that the idea of Obamacare is a good thing, especially for those who rack up ridiculous healthcare bills every year and because of certain circumstances they are not able to have health insurance. With Obamacare these people can hopefully afford to get health insurance since the cost is at a much more affordable rate, allowing them to not be paying an arm and leg for doctor and hospital bills. Just from talking to a few people I have known over the years that have not had health insurance, I am always in shock at how much it cost them to just go in for simple checkup not to mention if they needed to purchase something as simple as an antibiotic, the cost is outrageous. On the flip side though, for those that are healthy and almost never go to the doctor it is hard to see the point of dishing out an extra $200 a month, give or take, for something that they more than likely will not be using.
Looking at the bigger picture I think that the Affordable Care Act should be put in place, but I also believe that it should not be mandatory. Of course it has it’s pros and cons, but I do think that Obama does have the right idea in mind when offering this program, but if he would have just given people the option, not making it mandatory in the first place I don’t think it would have turned into such a big deal to argue over. As a firm believer is less government, I believe this is just another way that the government is trying to control our lives, which is a whole other topic in its self. All of that to say, I absolutely agree with you, it should be case by case because ultimately if your health does fail and you don’t have insurance it is on YOU!

  2. Mr.Corpus writes about the "Affordable Care Act" how its one of the most promient concerns right now in our National Government and says if its something americans really need.I dont need it im insured but alot of americans are not, being in there shoes and with thier Perspectives, i would think the ACA is essential for americans who are not insured and have health problems, they need to be insured so they are covered when something happens to them pretaing to there health problems or any other occurence. Most people are insured with there jobs and careers, the people who dont work probaly dont have insurance, what befudles me is that if your not insured you are going to be penalized,so how are they going to be able to pay to get insured if they dont even have a job and also in addition get penalized.People who cant work because they have health problems, will they get disability benefits, which if they have they can pay for the insuranse. The americans who probaly wont be able to pay for the insurance rates are the ones who have no health problems and just dont work at all.I belive the republicans wanted to defund obamcare so badly because they were afraid the nation will get even more in debt. The irony of that is that the government shutdown which the republicans wanted, put the U.S into some more debt than what it already was.

I cocur with Mr.Corpus that they are too many many variables and factors that can swing one's beliefs and Political Ideology. If it starts to affect to many americans, then there needs to be a solution and something got to change for better or worse.
